Hi there, welcome to my website!

My name is Chynna Brown, I am an artist and painter primarily, but every so often I have a tendency to venture off into the world of Surface Pattern design and create repeats for Textiles and homewares. I create vibrantly colourful paintings across a variety of mediums, mostly on paper and canvas…but sometimes my subjects tend to creep onto any surface available to me!

The desire to create is uncontrollable and has to be fulfilled, new ideas sometimes show up so strongly throughout my process of creating new work…that I have to sketch them down before the magic is gone! My paintings are fun, fresh and a tad on the surreal side, sometimes there is a girl with large eyes, her hair in ombre colours complete with giant Cherry Blossoms set under a crescent moon, then on other occasions a vision of a goddess with glitter eyes, butterflies adorning her face. My work is feminine and filled with nature and spiritual themes.

I create within a spectrum of my own imagination, creating my own dreamlike world. (I’m always trying to match my paintings to the visions in my mind!)

My Surface Pattern designs are vibrant and Psychedelic, with inspiration from the 60’s and 70’s. Using saturated block colour in digital programmes I bring my hand drawn black and white sketches to life. My surface pattern design ‘Flower Power’ has been featured in Pattern People’s e-book ‘Pattern Mix: A Collection of Inspiring Prints by Designers from Around the World’.

Studying at Central Bedfordshire College, I gained a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design and a Foundation Degree, before completing a Fine Art Degree at the University of Bedfordshire in 2013.
